FuelEU Monitoring Plan
The FuelEU Maritime (FEUM) Regulation
FuelEU Monitoring Plan
The first step in ensuring compliance with the newly enforced FuelEU Maritime regulation is preparing a FuelEU monitoring plan. If your vessel is over 5000 GT and has called an EU / EEA Port, you have to comply with this regulation.
Background of FuelEU
In addition to EU-MRV & EU-ETS, the European Union launched FuelEU Maritime as a part of its βFit for 55β package – to reduce GHG emissions by 55% before 2030. The European Commission adopted FuelEU Maritime Regulation (FEUM) in July 2023 (Regulation EU 1805/2023). It is the most recent regulation put forth by the EU for decarbonization in maritime transport.
Some ship types are exempt from this regulation, such as Warships, Naval Auxiliaries, Fish-catching & fish-processing ships, Ships not propelled by mechanical means, and Govt. ships used for non-commercial purposes.
